Cobra CDR 820 dash cam – first look review

Cobra Electronics launched the Drive HD line of dash cams in November and, as you’d expect from their name, all of the devices in the range record in full HD. More unexpected though is the low £69 starting price [RRP] for the compact Cobra CDR 820. Easily the cheapest in the line and also friendlier on your wallet than most of the dash cams we’ve tested in our labs.

Telecoms giant BT is in exclusive talks to buy EE - Britain's largest mobile network group - for £12.5bn.

It said the period of exclusivity would last "several weeks" to enable it to carry out the necessary negotiations.

In late November, BT said it was in talks to buy either EE or O2, which is owned by Spanish firm Telefonica.

"The proposed acquisition would enable BT to accelerate its existing mobility strategy," BT said in a statement.

Parrot Software Update Tool and MKi range.

Parrot have taken the decision to remove the ability to update the MKi range via the Parrot Software Update Tool. This decision has come from the following points:

1. To prevent MKi downgrades from version 3.0 toward 2.20

2. Unify the update process for the most recent Parrot products (ASTEROID, Jumping Sumo, Zik etc.)

3. Get more accurate data and statistics regarding updates and downloads from the website (we didn’t have stats from PSUT)

4. To avoid confusion between MAC and PC users

Any customer trying to update MKi units via the PSUT application will fail to download the update files. The update process for the MKi range consists of downloading the .plf file from the website directly (http://www.parrot.com/uk/support/) placing it within a folder labelled ParrotUp on a USB key.

Microsoft's artificially-intelligent virtual personal assistant, Cortana, will make its UK debut this week with the launch of the the Lumia 735 – the first smartphone to go on sale with the Windows Phone 8.1 operating system.
Cortana, which is Microsoft's answer to Apple Siri and Google Now, is named after the AI character that appears in the Halo video game. Airlines cleared for mobile phone use during flights

The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) says electronic devices such as mobile phones can be left switched on during flights. EASA says that electronic devices do not pose a safety risk.

The announcement clears the way for airlines to permit the use of mobile phones, once they have conducted their own safety reviews. Currently airline passengers have to switch devices to flight mode and make calls from the airport terminal.

The EASA sets the framework for airlines making safety decisions.

The agency said each airline would still have to go through an assessment process, ensuring aircraft systems are not affected by the signals from portable electronic devices before establishing their own rules for their operation.As a result there could be a delay in implementing the new rules at some airlines. It also says that airlines may opt for different policies on the use of mobile devices.

Apple sells more than 10 MILLION iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in one weekend.

Apple took a gamble with the launch of its larger iPhones - and it appears to have paid off.

The tech firm has reported it sold more than 10 million iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models over the weekend when it was released - a three-day record for a new model. This beat the previous record of 9 million for last year's iPhone 5S and 5C.

Phones 4U founder Caudwell condemns 'ruthless' networks.

John Caudwell, the founder of Phones 4U, has blamed the demise of his former company on the "ruthless actions" of "predatory" mobile phone networks. The retailer went in to administration on Monday, putting 5,596 jobs at more than 700 outlets at risk, after Vodafone, EE and O2 did not renew their contracts with the company. This was an "unprecedented assassination", Mr Caudwell told the BBC's Today programme.

Accountancy firm PwC has been appointed to see if any of the 560 stores and 160 concessions can be re-opened or sold. The retailer, now owned by private equity firm BC Partners, has said established mobile contracts taken out through Phones 4U would not be affected, although phones ordered and not despatched - for example anyone ordering the new iPhone 6 over the weekend - would be.  EE has again been ranked top overall in research comparing the performance of the UK's four mobile networks, with Vodafone coming last. more info.

The penalty for using a mobile phone while driving could be doubled from the current three points, the transport secretary has suggested.

Patrick McLoughlin's suggestion comes after Met Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe called for offenders to get six points on their licence. The increased sanctions would mean a driver could get banned if they got caught twice in three years. A government spokesman said it was "considering a number of options". It has been illegal to use a mobile phone while driving since December 2003. As it stands offenders get three points on their licence and an initial £100 fine, which could increase to a £1,000 fine should the case go to court.
